Community Momentum • 2024 to 2026Because Zip Captions works immediately in the browser without requiring an account, most daily classroom and broadcast sessions happen anonymously. Yet the story of our registered users reveals just how rapidly grassroots accessibility spreads when a tool respects its community.
2-Year TrajectoryFrom under 600 early adopters in mid-2024 to nearly 6,000 registered users
Community ReachRegistered users, driven overwhelmingly by educators, AV teams, and advocates
Finding Our First Thousand Voices (2024)
In the summer of 2024, Zip Captions was a tightly knit community of fewer than 600 early adopters, mostly teachers and assistive technology specialists in Quebec and across North America. By October 2024, as broadcasters, churches, and streamers searched for a dependable, privacy-first successor to WebCaptioner, word spread across forums and school boards, carrying us past our first 1,000 registered users.
Scaling Across Classrooms & Sanctuaries (2025)
Momentum accelerated throughout 2025. With the introduction of multi-language AI translation, static room share links, and direct bridges for OBS Studio, vMix, and Bitfocus Companion, adoption doubled past 2,000 users in March 2025, reached nearly 3,000 by midsummer, and crossed the 4,000-user mark in November 2025. Each new milestone represented another school district, university lecture hall, or congregation opening its doors wider.
Approaching 6,000 Users Worldwide (2026)
By autumn 2026, our registered community has grown to over 5,850 users: a tenfold increase in just over two years. With only modest, occasional advertising, this growth has been fueled overwhelmingly by grassroots word-of-mouth: teachers, speech-language pathologists, technical directors, and students sharing a link with colleagues and saying, "This works, and it is built with care."
